The Gas Light Project

This project is a research on gas light such as neon or fluorescent tubes. During my research I discovered that neon could be lit without electronic poles or plugs thanks to electromagnetic field and what it could offer is extraordinary and somewhat magic.

I designed a lamp that works as a pedestal. It is made from a maple slab on which one can arrange any kind of standard bulbs as long as it is a fluorescent light.

With this technology, the contacts of the fluorescent bulbs were redundant because the gas is directly lit by the high frequency waves. From this observation I designed fluorescent light bulbs that could hold directly on electric wires creating a suspended lamp.

This technology also creates new gestures and new customs for the user. I created a writing desk on which is set a fluorescent tube. The user manipulates the tube as one use to manipulate a candle. When the tube is placed in the groove it turns off. The light has the brightness of a candle and the tube can be moved wherever it is need.
